REQUEST FOR COMMENT – PROPOSED RENEWABLE ENERGY FACILITY (MARRI WIND FARM) ON VARIOUS LOTS, YATHROO AND REGANS FORD

The Shire of Dandaragan is in receipt of a development application to construct a renewable energy facility, being the proposed Marri Wind Farm. The details list of properties are listed in Table 2.1 in the Development Application Report below.  The total project area will include 12,472 hectares, with a disturbance footprint of approximately 964 ha (construction activities and access).

The proposed development includes the following permanent structures:

  • A total of 82 wind turbines with a hub height of up to 184 metres above ground level (‘AGL’) and a tip height, or total overall height, of 275 metres AGL. Each turbine is supported by concrete gravity foundations of approximately 1.5 hectares.
  • Up to six meteorological masts with a total height of 180m AGL each and one communications tower, with a total height of 85 metres, is also proposed.
  • A Battery Energy Storage System (‘BESS’) with a capacity of 550MW/6,600MWh, proposed to be situated on the corner of Gillingarra Road and Dandaragan Road, Yathroo. The BESS is proposed to occupy a footprint of up to 10 hectares within the 50 hectares site indicated on the site plan and comprise battery containers, inverters, transformers, control and switch gear equipment, lightning protection masts, and security fencing.
  • Operations and maintenance facilities including offices, parking and associated amenities is proposed to be located on a site of 2.2 hectares north of the BESS.
  • An electrical connection substation with a footprint of 7.0 hectares; two alternative locations are indicated for a windfarm substation which will be approximately 3ha in area (only one will be confirmed).
  • Underground collector power cabling of approximately 13km
  • Up to 7.5km overhead transmission lines.

Proposed temporary facilities include:

  • Up to 6 concrete batching plants,
  • A turkey nest dam, and
  • Other transportable buildings and infrastructure associated with the construction and operation of the wind farm.

The site plan includes three indicative alternative locations for one potential temporary workforce accommodation site that may be the subject of a future application – however is not part of this application.

Comprehensive technical studies have been undertaken addressing biodiversity, hydrology, noise, traffic and transport, landscape and visual impact, Aboriginal and historic heritage, and bushfire risk and can be viewed at the following link? or at the Shire offices.

Clarification on the proposal can be obtained by phoning (08) 9652 0800 or by emailing janinee@dandaragan.wa.gov.au.

Any comments that you may wish to make on the proposal must be lodged with the Shire of Dandaragan Jurien Bay Administration Centre or via DSR@dandaragan.wa.gov.au by 4.00pm on 28 January 2026.
