Story Box Library ANZAC month

Watch well known Australians read beautiful ANZAC stories online with your children, including stories about the sacrifice and contribution that Indigenous people have made to Australia's war efforts.  Click the Story Box Library videos with your library membership card to watch The Happiness Box, Alfred's War, ANZAC Ted, and other ANZAC stories.

Scribblers Festival

Connecting through Creativity

To explore how creativity can play a part in staying connected, Scribblers Festival and CBH Group are joining forces to launch a new visual storytelling competition: Connecting Through Creativity.

Your challenge: Using a method of visual storytelling that inspires you, explore the topic of connectivity during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Visual storytelling method examples include: 2D Arts (drawing, illustration, painting, collage, photography, comic etc.); Video (video diary, performance, stop motion, interview, short film, etc.); and 3D Arts (ephemeral art, land art, sculpture, pop-up book, etc.).

There are two age categories: 1. Primary (any age attending Years 1-6) 2. Secondary (any age attending Years 7-12). Entries close 26 June 2020.

National Simultaneous Storytime - Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Over a million Australians will take part in National Simultaneous Storytime - coming together virtually to read "Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas" - written and illustrated by Lucinda Gifford Books (and published by Scholastic Australia)

Come in to Jurien Bay Library at 11am on Wednesday 27 May to hear Shire of Dandaragan President Leslee Holmes who will be our special reader.  

Now in its 20th year, NSS is an initiative of the Australian Library and Information Association that promotes reading and literacy, and brings together children, families, schools, playgroups and communities.

LibraryCraft

LibraryCraft is a free Minecraft Server for WA players aged 7 to 17. The server is provided by multiple WA local governments and is safe, secure and moderated.

There are multiple worlds connected by portals, to allow for various styles of gameplay.  Enter worlds like Survival Mode, Creative Mode and Monthly Competitions, as well as PVP combat, Spleef, Skyblock, Racing, and more.

You will need your own copy of Minecraft to play – it is available on PC, iOS, Android, Windows 10, Nintendo Switch and Xbox.
