Blackbirds Culture Mental Health Workshop at Jurien Bay Library

Join Blackbirds Culture at the Jurien Bay Library when they run their Mental Health Workshop from 10am to 1pm Monday 17 January.

National Simultaneous Storytime 2022 at Jurien Bay Library

Join us at 9am for National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS), which is an important annual campaign that aims to encourage young children to read and enjoy books as well as teach them the value of literacy.

Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around Australia, New Zealand and the world. Now in its 22nd successful year, this year NSS takes place on Wednesday 25 May 2022 and we would love it if you could join us at the Jurien Bay Library.

NAIDOC WEEK

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday) to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the country.

Visit your local Shire of Dandaragan library between the 3rd -10th  for a range of  NAIDOC Week activities and displays.

Scribblers Festival

Scribblers Festival is an annual festival of literature and arts for young people. Scribblers Festival invites young people and the young at heart to celebrate the magic of storytelling.

The Festival brings together authors, illustrators and other storytellers from Perth, across Australia, and around the world to empower and engage young readers through interactive sessions and workshops. In the lead up to the Festival, over 15,000 feather-shaped bookmarks are scattered throughout public libraries across Western Australia, with five rare Golden Feathers waiting to be found by lucky young readers as part of the annual Golden Feather Hunt.

Sound like fun? Don’t miss any of the action - Golden Feather Hunt at your local library.

Book Week

We will be partnering with the Jurien Bay CRC to support National Pyjama Day on this day so feel free to support this worthy cause by wearing your favourite pyjamas to this event. A fundraising tin will be available if you wish to donate.

National Pyjama Day is all about wearing your favourite pair of PJ’s to help The Pyjama Foundation raise much-needed awareness and funds for children in foster care.

Scibblers Festival

Scribblers Festival is an annual festival of literature and arts for young people. Scribblers Festival invites young people and the young at heart to celebrate the magic of storytelling. Sound like fun? Feather shaped bookmarks are scattered throughout the children’s and young adult sections of our libraries.

How To Start Your Hunt:

  1. Visit your local Shire of Dandaragan Library

  2. Select a book you would like to borrow

  3. Check out the book with the help of your friendly librarian

  4. Cross your fingers and open the book...

  5. If there is a feather-shaped bookmark inside do a victory dance and bring the feather to the librarian who will know exactly what to do next

  6. If there isn't a feather-shaped bookmark inside, chin up - you still have a great book to read AND you can have another hunt when you borrow your next book.

    Golden Feathers - There are only FIVE of this rare feathers hidden in the whole of WA. The lucky finder of one of these, wins the grand prize of a VIP Festival Pass, and iPad and signed book pack

    Silver Feathers - There are only 20 of these lucky feathers in the hunt. Find one of these and you win a signed book‍

    Amethyst Feathers - Each participating library has one of these hidden in the shelves, and comes with an instant book prize

    White Feathers - Colour these in, post a pic to social media tagging us @scribblersfest and @shireofdandaragan and you could win an instant prize!

    Visual Story Board Workshop at Jurien Bay Library

    Join us at the Jurien Bay Library for this 2 day art workshop from 10 am to 1pm on the 5th and 6th of October to create your very own visual story board.

    Local artist Linda Quanchi will help you to create a beautiful visual story board using your own special items.

    Bring an apron and any personal momentos and keepsakes you want to embellish your art piece with and prepare to get creative at this mixed media workshop.
