Disability Access and Inclusion

Shire of Dandaragan welcomes everyone and is continually improving access and inclusion for residents and visitors. Our organisation remains committed to the inclusion of people with disability, both in employment and the provision of services to the community, through the improvement of access to its services, facilities and information.

Policy Statement

The Shire of Dandaragan will ensure its agents and contractors work towards achieving the seven desired outcomes of its Disability Access and Inclusion Plan.

Disability Access and Inclusion Plan

In 2021, with the help of the community, the Shire reviewed and updated the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP). This important document outlines the strategies and tasks the Shire has adopted to ensure access, inclusion and meaningful participation for everyone in the community.

Advocating for access and inclusion

The Shire encourages the community and commercial sectors to provide for the needs of people with disability. For example guide and assistance dogs are allowed access to everywhere their handler goes, see Guide Dog Access Rights

If you would like to speak with someone regarding issues you are facing in the community related to access and inclusion, please contact the Shire on 9652 0800 or council@dandaragan.wa.gov.au.

When obtaining a permit to hold an event on Shire-owned and managed land, event coordinators are reminded to read the Creating Accessible Events checklist, designed to assist with planning events that are accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

The Shire, in partnership with the Department of Transport, recently improved accessibility for swimming at the Jurien Bay Marina Beach. An upgraded ramp to the beach, seating and improved access to the change rooms/toilets were newly installed.
