Public Notice – Proposed Amendments to Local Planning Policy 9.12 - Short-Term Rental Accommodation
The Shire of Dandaragan invites public comment on proposed amendments to Local Planning Policy 9.12 - Short Term Rental Accommodation.
This policy has been updated to align with changes to the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015, and to provide greater direction on the location and management requirements associated with Short-Term Rental Accommodation (STRA).
The objectives of the amended policy are:
- To establish development standards for Unhosted STRA developments and provide a consistent approach to the assessment and discretionary approval of STRA.
- To ensure that the ‘Residential’ zone continues to fulfill its primary purpose of providing long-term housing opportunities.
- To encourage the location of Unhosted STRA in the’ Regional Centre’ and ‘Tourism’ zones where STRA can contribute to tourism accommodation and be in proximity to a range of amenities and services.
- To ensure Unhosted STRA is designed, sited and managed to avoid off-site impacts on adjoining properties and to preserve the amenity and character of the area in which it is located.
- To ensure Unhosted STRA is appropriately serviced to meet the needs of visitors and prevent impacts on the local environment and infrastructure.
- To provide for the safety of guests in the event of a bushfire or other natural disaster.
Submissions on the amended policy may be made via dsr@dandaragan.wa.gov.au until 5.00pm, Wednesday, 7 October 2026.
