Demolition Contractor Fined for Asbestos and Building Offences
Date: 8 May 2025

The Shire of Dandaragan is advising the community of a recent court outcome involving a demolition contractor who failed to comply with important health and building regulations related to asbestos handling.

On 7 May 2025, the Moora Magistrates Court convicted the contractor in their absence and imposed a total of $20,000 in fines:

  • $5,000 under the Health (Asbestos) Regulations 1992
  • $15,000 under the Building Act 2011

An additional $1,500 in court costs was also awarded to the Shire.

These penalties reflect the seriousness of the offences, which occurred in a commercial context and involved the mishandling of asbestos-containing materials.

The Shire of Dandaragan reminds all contractors and property owners that strict compliance with asbestos and building regulations is essential to protect public health and safety.

The Shire will continue to take enforcement action where necessary.
