Senior Planner
Shire of Dandaragan | Permanent Full‑Time | Jurien Bay, WA
The Shire of Dandaragan is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Planner to join our Development Services team based in Jurien Bay, a stunning coastal town just north of Perth.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an established planner (or a strong mid‑career planner ready to step up) to play a key role in shaping sustainable development outcomes in a growing regional community.
About the Role
Reporting to the Executive Manager Development Services, the Senior Planner will:

Administer the Shire’s Local Planning Scheme and planning responsibilities

Assess and report on development, subdivision, rezoning and other planning applications

Provide professional planning advice to Council, internal stakeholders, developers and the community
-
Undertake site inspections and investigations to ensure planning compliance
-
Contribute to policy development, scheme amendments and strategic projects
-
Coordinate and support stakeholder consultation and engagement processes
-
Supervise and support the Planning Assistant
The role offers a high level of autonomy, professional respect, and diverse exposure across statutory and strategic planning matters.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Essential
-
Degree in Urban and Regional Planning (or equivalent), or substantial progress toward completion
-
Demonstrated experience in town planning, ideally within local or state government
-
Sound knowledge of Western Australian planning legislation, policies and processes (including the Residential Design Codes)
-
Ability to assess development and subdivision applications and prepare high‑quality reports
-
Strong written, verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills
-
Well‑developed analytical, problem‑solving and time management skills
-
Current “C” Class Driver’s Licence
-
Current National (Federal) Police Clearance (or ability to obtain one)
Highly Regarded
-
Experience working in regional or rural Western Australia
-
Understanding of planning and development issues relevant to the Wheatbelt
-
Experience supervising or mentoring junior planning staff
