EXOTIC WEED WALKAWAY BURR CONTROL
We have been advised by Northern Agricultural Catchments Council (NACC) about the spread of the exotic weed, Walkaway Burr (Burrgrass) around Jurien Bay.
Walkaway Burr is alien to Western Australia, and is common in disturbed sites, particularly on coastal dunes and limestone soils. It is also found on cultivated and abandoned fields, pastures, roadsides, lawns, dunes and along river sands. Burrs readily attach to clothing or animals and can be carried by water and equipment. Walkaway Burr is a threat to native flora.
The Shire would like anyone who identifies the weed on their property or in public areas, to report it to Coordinator Infrastructure Services on 9652 0800 or via the Report It function on the Shire of Dandaragan website. Please identify the exact location in order for the Shire to put in place weed control measures.
