SHIRE RECEIVES LOTTERYWEST FUNDING TO CONTINUE HERITAGE WORK AT NORTH HEAD RADAR STATION

The Shire of Dandaragan recently employed archaeologists and heritage consultants, HDA, to undertake further excavation work at the North Head Radar Station site to determine the extent of remnants and foundations from the World War II site. To coincide with this work, Jurien Bay Rsl organised a public tour of the site which almost 80 people attended.

The Shire are pleased to advise that we have received funding from Lotterywest to continue our work on this important heritage site. Funding will allow us to undertake oral history recordings, creation of a dvd/video telling the story of the site, creation of a booklet about the site and it's stories, and development of a conservation management plan.

A site like this holds important heritage value however management of it will be complex given the competing interests that different people in the community hold towards it. This funding will continue the work we have been doing for the last three years and will result in a plan for the future.
