New Outdoor Eating Facility Guidelines to Reduce Red Tape for Local Businesses

Local businesses wanting to create alfresco and parklet dining options for clientele will have less red-tape in the Shire of Dandaragan when new Outdoor Eating Facility Guidelines were endorsed recently.

The Guidelines were a response to the State Government's new Level 1 COVID-19 Business Assistance package which included grants of up to $5,000 to support small business to expand their operations with alfresco dining.

The new guidelines will replace the existing procedure in the Shire where an application for alfresco and parklet dining required both development approval and a permit for an 'Outdoor Eating Facility' under the Activities in Thoroughfares and Public Places and Trading Local Law.

In addition, a unanimous vote endorsed the motion to waive the fees associated with Outdoor Eating Facility Permits for the 2021/22 financial year.

The new guidelines were based on best practice for local governments and were developed after consultation with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, local government authorities in the metropolitan area, and local food and beverage providers.

The Shire looks forward to seeing new outdoor dining options roll-out in the near future.
