The Shire of Dandaragan would like the community’s involvement in the naming of Reserve 49921 on the corner of Middleton Boulevard and Mosman Parade, Jurien Bay, and Reserve 51201 on Beachridge Drive, Jurien Bay.

Letters were sent out to immediate neighbours and stakeholder groups, and information was shared on social and print media.  Year 7 and 8 students from Jurien Bay District High School researched local history and submitted many ideas for consideration.  We received nearly 40 submissions.

The community were asked to follow the following criteria for the names to be eligible:

  • Names of an adjoining road name
  • Names from Aboriginal languages formerly identified with the general area
  • Names of pioneers who were relevant to the area
  • Names of person who died during war service
  • Names associated with historical events connected with the immediate area
  • Names that commemorate an individual shall be considered if:
  1. The person has been deceased for at least two (2) years
  2. Where the applicant requesting the new name is not an immediate relative and written permission of the family is obtained
  3. The person being honoured has had either some direct or long-term association, twenty (20) or more years, with the feature or has made a significant contribution to the area.

Staff have gone through the submissions to find eligible names but we need your help selecting the top 3 (three).

Click on the below link to vote on the names submitted by the public.  The poll is open until close of business 14th September 2018.

Once the top three (3) names are decided, an agenda item will be submitted for the Council to select a suitable name for each reserve.

The two (2) names will then be sent off to the Geographical Names Committee (GNC) at Landgate for approval.
