Residents and visitors to the Shire of Dandaragan will soon have access to an all-terrain beach wheelchair after the Jurien Bay CRC were successful in receiving funding.

The project involved many months of consultations, investigation and planning about how to maximise availability of the wheelchair.  The Community Living and Participation Grant from National Disability Services (WA) and Lotterywest will allow people with disability or mobility issues to access beaches and trails within the Shire of Dandaragan.

The Wheelchair helps to achieve objectives of the Shire of Dandaragan's Disability Access & Inclusion and Age-Friendly Community Plans which highlighted the need for people to have better access to beaches in the Shire.

It is estimated the wheelchair will be available for use in the coming months as an appropriate booking/hire/maintenance system is worked out.

This has been a great team effort between the Shire, the CRC, with feedback from people with disability and their families, that will benefit both community members and visitors to the Shire.  We thank everyone who gave us feedback on their needs and will keep you all updated when we know more.
