Closure of Sandy Cape and Shire Facilities to Mitigate Coronavirus Risk

Published: Monday, 23 March 2020 at 2:30:33 PM

In response to the Prime Minister’s announcement last night asking Australians to avoid non-essential travel, the Shire of Dandaragan has made the decision to close the entire Sandy Cape Recreation Reserve (Jurien Bay) and Pioneer Park Transit Park (Dandaragan) to camping until further notice.

No new customers will be permitted to camp at Sandy Cape, Pioneer Park Transit Park or overflow camping in Cervantes and Jurien Bay from today, and campers currently at the facility will be given until Friday 27 March to vacate the facility.

There will also be no overflow camping facilities within the Shire of Dandaragan over Easter and the upcoming school holidays. This decision takes into account the best available information available to us to mitigate the risks of COVID-19 in our community.

This measure will also support maintaining capacity within our local emergency services and supermarket supply chains.

The Turquoise Coast Visitor Centre, Recreation Centres and Shire Libraries are also now closed following the Prime Minister’s directive. Our Library staff are currently looking at ways to continue to support our community and provide book exchange services through alternative means.

The Shire will continue to be guided by the Federal Government and Department of Health WA (DoH) in relation to appropriate responses relating to the COVID-19 issue and protecting the health and safety of community members, including our staff, will be the Shire’s priority.

Shire President
