Another Two Community-Drive Environmental Projects to be Funded by the Shire

Another two important environmental projects coordinated by the community have been funded by the Shire of Dandaragan when Council approved grant applications to Dandaragan Golf Club and EarthWhile Australia.
The organisations will both receive $10,000 each towards their projects to improve the local environment at the 23 June Ordinary Council Meeting.
Dandaragan Golf Club will continue their Mistletoe Mitigation Project with the grant to reduce pressure on Dandaragan's redgum trees by removing some of the semi-parasitic native mistletoe. To date, the club have worked alongside the Shire parks and gardens team to reduce mistletoe growth on stressed redgums with advice from arboriculturist Jonathan Epps.
Earthwhile Australia will partner with three local farms and other local organisations to explore pathways of growing crops with no or minimal use of broad-spectrum chemicals for a sustainable approach. The project will involve farmer-led trials with ongoing engagement with farmers throughout the growing season, soil sampling, community education sessions and seminars, surveys of community perceptions about the use of broad-spectrum chemicals and a report at the end of the project with results and outcomes.
These two projects complete the three projects available to be funded throughout 2021/22 with the funding of the Dandaragan Coastal Multi-weed Eradication Program being coordinated by Jurien Bay Regional Herbarium Group last year.
Thank you to the other organisations that applied for funding. We aim to work with you in future rounds to improve your opportunity at receiving a grant under the Shire of Dandaragan Environmental Grant program.
Applications have been received for the 2022/23 round and will go to Council for consideration in August.
