Disability Access & Inclusion

The Shire of Dandaragan is committed to ensuring that the community is an accessible community for people with disability, their families and carers.  We believe that people with disability, their families and carers who live in country areas should be supported to remain in the community of their choice.  We are committed to consulting with people with disability, their families and carers, and where required, disability oganisations, to ensure that barriers to access are addressed appropriately.

Disability Access & Inclusion Plan

In 2016, with the help of the community, the Shire reviewed and updated our Disability Access and Inclusion Plan. This important document outlines the strategies and tasks the Shire has adopted to ensure access, inclusion and meaningful participation for everyone in the community.

Advocating for Access and Inclusion

When obtaining a permit to hold an event on Shire-owned and managed land, event coordinators are reminded to read the Creating Accessible Events checklist, designed to assist with planning events that are accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

The Shire are currently working in partnership with the Department of Transport to improve accessibility for swimming at the Jurien Bay Marina Beach.  An upgraded ramp to the beach, seating and improved access to the change rooms/toilets are all planned for 2019.
