Recreational Campsite - Sandy Cape

10km north of Jurien Bay, access from Indian Ocean Drive to Sandy Cape Recreation Park is via a partially-sealed road, accessible to most conventional vehicles. The information bay is located 6km down the gravel road with the campsite a further 1.5km.

Camp sites at Sandy Cape are subject to a first come first serve basis. There is NO pre-booking of sites and there are no provisions for overflow camping once all sites are full. Camp sites at Sandy Cape will regularly be full during peak periods of use, such as school holidays and long weekends.  Campers can stay for a maximum of 4 nights however extensions can be obtained but only from the Caretaker or the Shire Rangers.

When on site, camp fees can be paid direct to the Caretaker.  Should the Caretaker not be in attendance camp fees can be paid to the Shire Rangers and also at the information bay honesty box. Please retain your receipt. Please note: camp fees for Sandy Cape apply to the entire Land Reserve area #19062. This includes the 4WD-only access areas north and south of the main campsite.

From 1st July 2017, camp fees are $20 per night per campsite for up to 2 adults and 2 children, with additional adults $3 per night and additional children $2 per night.

Please take all rubbish with you. At the Information Bay rubbish bins are provided.

Dogs are permitted in Sandy Cape Recreation Park. When dogs are in the camp grounds and in the swimming area adjacent to the camp grounds dogs are to be on a lead or leash.

There are no permitted areas for the taking, riding or driving of unlicensed vehicles and plated off road vehicles (ORV's) to operate within the entire reserve of Sandy Cape Recreation Park.

Public toilets are available at the camp grounds. The ablutions are long drop self composting toilets.

No drinking water or electricity is available on site.

Please do not dispose of chemical porta-loos down the toilets.

For your convenience a chemical dump easy facility is located next to the information bay.

As limestone cliffs are prevalent on the coastal area it is important to recognise the risks. The Shire of Dandaragan has put together a brochure with reference to this coastal area. Please take the time to read it.

Private Properties

The Caravan Parks and Camping Grounds Act 1995 and Regulations 1997 assist Local Governments to regulate caravanning and camping to improve and promote the industry.

To be able to legally camp in the Shire, written permission from the owner of the land you plan to camp on is required. If you wish to stay any longer than three nights, that will have to be stated in the letter of permission. It is strongly advised that such written permission be obtained prior to your camping stay and carried with you.

Overflow Camping

When the caravan parks in Jurien Bay or Cervantes are full, there is the provision for the community to provide overflow camping at the sports ground in each town. The operation of the overflow camping is conducted by volunteer committee members of each sport and recreation centre / community hall with fees payable being retained by those groups, contributing towards the ongoing operation and maintenance of the sites. All sites are unpowered and shower and toilet facilities are available onsite. Signage will be placed at the entrance to each site when overflow camping is available. No camping on these sites is permitted other than during designated overflow periods.

Free Camping

Please note: the following free campsites were endorsed by Council in March 2016 and there may be some existing signage at the sites from when overnight stays were restricted. These are scheduled to be removed in the near future.

All free campsites are for fully self-contained campers only. All campers must carry a minimum of 20 litres of fresh water, have a waste (grey) water holding tank capacity and have a portable toilet cassette with holding capacity. All waste must be retained by the camper and disposed of off-site in appropriate facilities.
