Crossovers

Residential Area

The specifications below relate to the following types of materials used in construction for crossovers.

  1. Concrete
  2. Bitumen
  3. Brick Paving

In accordance with these provisions, Council will permit the crossover to be constructed by a private contractor following the guidelines of the Council.

If the crossover is a standard crossover or superior to a standard crossover Council shall pay the cost of $200.00 for that crossover, but if that crossover is inferior to a standard crossover or specifications Council will bear no part of the cost thereof.

Standard Crossover

This is a crossover that is constructed in accordance with the specifications fixed by the By-Laws or resolution of a Council:

  1. The standard crossover is to a gravel standard;
  2. 7 metres or less x 2.7 metres;
  3. With 100mm thickness of gravel;
  4. If brick paved, then to a trafficable standard;
  5. If to a concrete standard, to be able to carry heavy traffic;
  6. No crossover to be constructed within the 7.5 metre visual truncation of the lot;
  7. crossovers in rural area to incorporate a 300 mm diameter pipe, to a gravel standard and be 6 metres wide.

Duplex Site

The specification for residential vehicle crossover applies to duplex sites, but only one subsidy is payable to a duplex or strata titled lot.

Commercial

Council's requirements for commercial area crossovers are enforced as a condition of development.

Industrial Areas

All crossovers to be constructed to the minimum requirement of a standard crossover, but material used should be of a standard to meet requirements of vehicular traffic.

Finishing

The finishing of any crossover shall be of a non-slip surface.

Levels

The level from the property line to the back of the kerb shall be no less than 2% and no more than 10% to the road kerb.
Where there is no kerb an allowance is to be made for kerbing to a height of 130mm above bitumen.

Crossing Obstructions

Should any tree, pole, pit, manhole, sign or any other obstruction be located on the proposed alignment of the vehicle crossing the applicant shall be responsible for the cost associated with the removal or alterations of same.

Where a crossover is longer than a standard crossover, Council upon application, will consider a contribution of up to $200.00.
