Seniors

In March 2016, the Shire of Dandaragan adopted an Age Friendly Community Plan (AFCP).  This Plan became one of the informing strategies when preparing the 2016-2026 Strategic Community Plan.  The Plan was developed following an extensive community engagement and participation process with seniors and other stakeholders and acknowledges the vital role seniors play in our community through their involvement in paid work, as volunteers, as supportive family members and as community leaders.  Based on this feedback the Shire gained during the consultation period from older people in our community, the Shire will continue to strive to enhance the opportunities to promote active ageing in our Shire, ensuring older people can contribute and participate in community life, as well as acknowledge and continue to address the barriers to services, structures and policies that seniors may encounter in our communities.

Home and Community Care (HACC)

Home and Community Care (HACC) currently provides services to residents of Jurien Bay and Cervantes.

HACC provides care for those who require less comprehensive care than those who require packages.

HACC works with a Wellness Approach and offers a range of assistance that can enable an individual to build and maintain their existing skills, regain lost skills and learn new skills. This enables people to maintain their independence and autonomy.

The HACC Office is at Jurien Bay Health Centre and you can phone 9652 0210 for further information.

RSL Care

level 3 care packages

RSL Care Home Care currently have Level 3 Care Packages available to people with high need/dementia personal care needs for residents in Cervantes, Jurien Bay and Badgingarra.

The Care Packages are designed to assist people with high personal care needs to remain in their own homes as long as possible.

Currently our Shire/area has been allocated 12 packages and only a couple of these have been taken up so there are still around 10 available.

The packages offer approximately $32,000 of care services per person which equates to about 8 hours of care service per week (if used in labour Monday-Friday). However the packages provide a variety of options suited to the individual and can be used for nursing care, housework, food preparation/cooking, transport, home modification, etc. (not food or rent).

These packages would be perfect for the individual who needs a higher level of care, and if they are not taken up by people in the Shire, the packages go back into a National pool.

To apply or discuss with RSL Care, please contact Sarah, Case Manager on 9652 0492 or 0498 002 803.
